Donald H. Culver Jr., of Fall City, died Saturday, April 19th, 2008. He was 77 years of age.
Don was born on April 4th, 1931 in Springfield, Massachusetts, son of Donald and Eunice Culver. He was raised in Massachusetts and Connecticut. Don attended Paul Smith’s College and the University of Maine where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Forestry. During his college years, Don took time away from his studies to enlist in the United States Army from October 12th, 1953 until October 19th, 1956.
Don was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado. While serving in the army, Don married his first wife, Dorothy Carrier Culver, October 5th, 1954. Don returned to the University of Maine to finish his degree and graduated in June of 1957.
Don immediately began his forestry career with the United States Forest Service in Detroit Lake, Oregon in 1957. Over the course of Don’s career, he served the US Forest Service in Springfield, Oregon; Dexter, Oregon; Oakridge and Westfir, Oregon; Okanogan, Washington; and retired from the US Forest Service while working in the Supervisor’s Office of the Mt. Baker/Snoqualmie National Forest.
Don and Dot were married until March 27th, 1981 when Dot preceded Don in death. Don married his current wife, Grace Seraile Culver, on January 2nd, 1982. Don and Grace moved to Fall City in 1985. Don was an active member of Mt. Si Lutheran Church. He participated weekly in a men’s Saturday morning bible study and also participated in a Monday night men’s bible study. He especially enjoyed coffee fellowship with a group of men from the church every Tuesday morning. Don was also actively involved with the Helping Hands Food Bank, Fall City Community Association, Fall City Historical Society, and Lutheran Marriage Encounter.
Don is survived by his wife Grace of Fall City, his daughter Suzy and her husband Duane of Roseburg, Oregon, his son Bill and his wife Linda of Portland, Oregon, his stepdaughter Cheryl Seraile of West Orange, New Jersey, his stepson Jim Seraile and his wife Shau Ru of Bothell, Washington, his sister Dian Jones and her husband Bob of Manakin-Sabot Virginia. Surviving grandchildren are David, Sam, Jenae, Calvin and Isaac. Nieces and nephews are Karene (Rick) Wallis, David Jones, and Suzi (Billy) French and a host of friends the world over.
A committal service was held at April 25 at Tohoma National Cemetery in Kent. A memorial service was held April 26 at Mt. Si Lutheran Church in North Bend.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to The American Cancer Society, Group Health Hospice, and Mt. Si Lutheran Church.
