McLaughlin leads Mount Si at state

Mount Si sprinter Frank McLaughlin finished out a season of highs with a pair of top-five finishes at the Class 3A state track and field championships at Edgar Brown Stadium in Pasco May 23.
McLaughlin was the only athlete to score team points for the Wildcats, who finished in a tie for 15th with 14 points. North Central won the team title with 51 points, followed by Union’s 44.
McLaughlin’s best finish was third place in the 200. He clocked a 22.28, right behind the 21.79 of Kinsley Ojukwu from Union and the 22.21 of Case Parker from East Valley. McLaughlin entered the race having won districts in the 200 the week before.
In the 400, McLaughlin posted a time of 49.71 to finish fourth. Parker won that one in a time of 48.65, while Michael Berry from Rainier Beach was second and Clover Park’s Michael Okoro third.
McLaughlin also raced on Mount Si’s 1,600-meter relay team, which failed to place. In all the Wildcats had eight team members competing at the state meet.
Going into state, McLaughlin had posted the third best times in Class 3A in both the 200 and 400.
The Mount Si girls, who also had eight athletes competing, had one top-five finish. Diana Keller was fifth
in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.13. Lori Bourgous from East Valley won the event with a time of 14.78.
Mount Si finished with nine points in the girls team standings, as Eastmont scored 51 points and clipped Issaquah by two to claim the state championship.
Defending state champion Skyline ended up fourth with 43 points, as just 11 points separated the top five teams.
