SVHF establishes Donovan Fund

Snoqualmie Valley Hospital Foundation has begun to accept donations for the Donovan Fund in support of Barbi Donovan, director of medical staff services at Snoqualmie Valley Hospital who is recovering from a serious car accident.

The fund started in response to requests from friends and colleagues who wanted a way to help and show support for Donovan.

“There were a lot of people wondering what to do,” said Scott Scowcroft, executive director of Snoqualmie Valley Hospital Foundation. “It seemed natural for the hospital foundation to step up to the plate and offer the ability for many…to be able to express their concern for Barbi.”

The accident occurred as Donovan was returning home from a vacation on June 27. A 32 year-old drunk driver crossed the centerline on Highway 18 and collided passenger sides with Donovan’s 2002 Beetle.

Donovan suffered a concussion and broke her right femur, wrist and right shoulder in several places. However, there was no brain damage and she is expected to make a full recovery.

“It’s completely amazing that I’m in as great shape as I’m in,” said Donovan, who celebrated her 30th birthday last week.

Donovan was transferred to Snoqualmie Valley Hospital where she will remain for several more weeks in recovery. After, she plans to return to work on a part-time basis while continuing rehab therapy.

“It’s really nice to come out to the hospital where I know everyone,” Donovan said. “It felt like coming home to a certain extent and I’m very confident about the hospital and the services.”
Money collected from the fund will help to alleviate financial burden for Donovan, who is facing medical costs and time away from work among other expenses to accommodate for injuries. She is also a mother to two daughters.

“There’s been an outpouring of, not only concern, but caring,” Scowcroft said. “We have collected several donations from staff and board members. It’s been well-received.”

The driver of the other vehicle was charged with DUI and two accounts of vehicular assault.
Donovan is optimistic about her recovery and is surrounded by the support of friends and family.

“I have a fabulous family network,” Donovan said of her family, which flew in to help. “I have got a wonderful network of people and friends helping me out with stuff in the hospital.”
