A 20-year-old man drowned Saturday afternoon in the Snoqualmie River near North Bend.According to Eastside Fire & Rescue reports, the man, identified Tuesday by the King County Medical Examiner’s office as Ryan B. Lu, was swimming with a friend at a spot known as “The Lagoon,” near the Middle Fork Natural area around 5:30 p.m.
Lu reportedly went underwater, and the friend searched for him for approximately 15 minutes before calling 911 for help.
Rescue crews reportedly stated that the site of the drowning, while smooth and calm on the surface, is actually a deep pool with a strong current that can pull swimmers underwater.
Rescuers searched for approximately 30 minutes before locating the man’s body in about 15 feet of water.
