The Puget Sound Blood Center is asking people to give an altruistic hour and donate for a good cause. The blood center is sending a bus to the North Bend outlet mall from 9:30 a.m. — 12:30 p.m. at 461 South Fork Ave. S.W., Suite E1 Sept. 13.
Each person in line to donate will be asked questions about their health —if they recently had a cold, for instance — before they can donate. The center recommends that people weigh at least 110 pounds. Potential donors should bring a list of their medications before they consider donating.
According to the American Red Cross, donators should be at least 17 years old and have waited at least eight weeks since their last blood donation.
Cookies and juice will be served afterward to all who participate.
Michael Young, director of marketing communications for Puget Sound Blood Center, said the center was doing “very well” in terms of blood donation, but that doesn’t mean they can slow down.
“It takes 900 people registering every weekday to keep up with that supply,” Young said.
The next scheduled blood drive in the area that is open to the public will take place at Snoqualmie’s Our Lady of Sorrows, 39025 S.E. Alpha St., from 12-6 p.m. Nov. 21.
“We originally started the drive a couple of years ago when one of our parishioner’s daughters had leukemia,” said Pastoral Assistant Peggy Buckingham.
The church holds blood drives twice annually and encouraged people to sign up for blood donation by calling the main line at 888-2974.
“Don’t be shy about calling,” Buckingham said.
Businesses or groups can set up their own blood drives by calling Chelsea Page, donor resources representative for the Puget Sound Blood Center at (425) 462-4384 or by e-mailing schedule@psbc.org.

“We supply the blood for almost all of Western Washington,” Young said. “It’s very important for members of the community to donate because at one time or another, all of us will need blood.”
