Lukas Paulavicius died on Sept. 4, 2008. He was 20 years of age.Lukas was born in Kaunas, Lithuania, the son of Jurgita Kamarauskaite-Paulavicienie and Dalius Paulavicius. He was raised in Lithuania and in 1995 he enrolled in J. Naujalis Art and Music School with emphasis on Classical Piano Music. At his young age he participated in European piano competitions and won several awards for his age group. For his achievements in music he received an award from the Lithuanian President in 2000.

The same year, he moved to the U.S. and attended Mount Si High School and continued his piano education in Bellevue.

In September of 2006, he joined the U.S. Army and was awarded three service-related medals before his honorable discharge in the summer of 2007. Through his short life, he enjoyed music, snowboarding, basketball and many other hobbies.

Things came easy for Lukas in life and his sudden death did not allow him to start classes at Bellevue Community College, where he was enrolled to further his career and become a successful professional.

Survivors include his twin brother Dominic Martini, mother Dr. Jurga Martini & stepfather Dr. Shahm Martini, father Dalius Paulavicius & step-brother Linas Paulavicius, grandmothers Dr. Dalia Kamarauskiene & Brone Paulaviciene, and grandfather Vytautas Kamarauskas.

Lukas was, among other things, hard-working, independent, playful, curious, charming with a contagious smile and endless energy. He will be missed by his family as well as many of his friends and colleagues whom he shared his love of life with and considered them to be his extended family.

A graveside memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sept. 12, at Upper Hillside Cemetery, 50 Mt. Olympus Drive SW, Issaquah, WA 98027. Following the service there will be a gathering for family and friends at 1165 SW 10th St., North Bend, WA 98045.

Best man I have ever known. Truly loved by all he meets. I will carry him in my heart for all time. There are no words to explain his beauty inside and out. His spirit will always live in, in my heart and those of many others.

This is horrible. I was looking for my best friend from Basic Training, only to learn he died… on my birthday this year.

If anyone reads this, my name is Peter Donovan. Luke was my best friend at basic training, we were a closer than anyone. People often mistook us for brothers. This is hard. Luke was a great human being, he was loyal and honest. His friendship made basic training easier for me.

Luke, rest in peace brother. I’m sorry to hear this, I was looking for you because I planned on heading to Washington and hoped to see you.

I was also at BCT in the same platoon as Peter and Luke.

Luke and I had actually met before basic and messaged eachother and talked about how excited we were for the Army.

I really got to know Luke and enjoy his personality (when he wasnt horsin around with Peter, kidding.)

He will be truly missed and I am very saddenned to hear about this.

He was a great man with a huge heart and plenty of potential.

We love you Luke. I am sure youre being taken good care of and not hurting anymore.

My deepest symphaties go to all Luke’as family. I personally didn’t know Luke, but I know his grandmother Mrs. Brone Paulaviciene and RIP grandad Mr. Antanas Paulavicius. Brone was my elementary and middle school teacher and musical inspiration – very honorable woman. She told me about all Luke’s musical skills and how proud she and her husband Antanas were of both brother twins. It’s such a loss to Kaunas, Lithuania, musical world and Bellevue, WA. Please stay strong for Dominic, twin brother, and their whole extended family. Love and peace from Atlanta, GA. Sincerely, Elvyra Dapkute
