Fall sports season has been a memorable one

Maybe there’s something about leaves changing colors or the cold morning mist that blows in off the lake that makes the Snoqualmie Valley explode with athletic prowess in the fall.
A year ago, the Valley saw a reawakening of the Mount Si volleyball team as a state power. If there’s been a change this year, it’s that the number of sports winning looks to be expanding.
The Mount Si volleyball team once again qualified for the state tournament by placing third at a district tournament over the weekend. It marked the first time the Wildcats have qualified for state in back-to-back seasons since the 1980s.
In girls soccer, Mount Si not only won a league championship for the first time in 20 years, the Wildcats advanced all the way to the state quarterfinals. Had they gotten past top-ranked Kennedy in the quarterfinals, they would’ve advanced to the state semifinals for the first time ever.
The Mount Si football team accomplished the goal it had set out for at the beginning of the season. The Wildcats were able to play a meaningful 10th game and blew out a ranked team in that game to qualify for the state playoffs. Mount Si was only knocked out of contention after a miraculous comeback by Eastside Catholic.
We are amazed by the breadth and depth of the athletic talent at Mount Si. The consistent quality of the teams is a testament to great coaching, and to the support of the school community, always willing to pitch in with time or money to improve facilities and equipment for its students.
To those athletes who have already won hardware, and to those who strove mightily and had their season end early, we congratulate you on your efforts. The lessons you’ve learned on the field (or on the court, or on the course) will serve you all of your life.
To the athletes still out there, practicing and playing, good luck.
You are all part of a special time and place. We’re enjoying it as much as you!
