Dressbarn in North Bend trades toys for discounts

Dressbarn shoppers who donate a new, unwrapped gift for Toys for Tots can receive a 15 percent off Dressbarn coupon. Customers can drop off the gifts at the collection boxes near the cash register for the toy drive, which lasts from Dec. 8-14.
This is Dressbarn’s second drive in less than a month. First, the store encouraged people to donate to Hopelink and collected 65 toys for local families. Now, Dressbarn, Inc. is launching its first Toys for Tots drive. The company donated $25,000 to Toys for Tots centers across the country and has set a goal of collecting 2,500 new toys. Staff at the North Bend Dressbarn are aiming for a target of 150 toys.
“We’ll take toys for any age,” said Tammy Alford, store manager at the Dressbarn in North Bend. “Teenage kids are the hardest.”
Alford would know — she has five teenage children between the ages of 13 and 18. When people donate toys, they usually buy gifts for younger children. Alford encouraged shoppers to be creative and look around the North Bend factory stores for presents an older child would enjoy, ranging from clothing to music and books to electronics.
“We want to spread that holiday cheer to those who are in need, and this initiative really helps us to do that,” said Vivian Behrens, senior vice president and chief marketing officer of Dressbarn, Inc.
All of the toys donated will stay locally in the community. To donate, visit the store at 461 S. Fork Ave. S.W., North Bend.
People in need can sign up to receive from Toys for Tots by getting a verification form from a licensed state agency, such as the Department of Social and Health Services of Washington state.
“I think it’s the right thing to do,” Alford said. “We’re trying to bring back the holiday spirit when the children open the box.”
