From Unfinished Lips to play in the Valley

Michael Morales has been around the block, but he’s making a fresh start at music after a 25-year hiatus away from the acoustic scene.

Morales will play with his Woodinville band — From Unfinished Lips — at Isadora’s Bookstore & Cafe at 8062 Railroad Ave. N., Snoqualmie from 7-10 p.m. Jan. 24. There is a $5 suggested donation.

Valley parents lend a needed hand to foster system

Jennifer and her husband of North Bend have children of their own, as well as adopted and foster children.

“We had children and came to a point where we thought our family was complete,” Jennifer said. “Later on, we decided to have a larger family. We decided to adopt, rather than have additional children biologically.” Read more

Need for regional emergency coordinator discussed by EFR

Amid budget 2008 talks, Eastside Fire & Rescue staff recommended filling a new emergency coordinator position. But EFR’s commissioners chose to defer filling it, saying it wasn’t necessary right now. 

EFR staff hasn’t given up on the idea though, and it’s currently talking with the Woodinville Fire and Life Safety District about brokering a deal to share in the cost of a full-time emergency management coordinator. Read more

Mount Si football coaches shocked by WWU decision

A Jan. 8 announcement that Western Washington University planned to drop its football program left a large group of athletes, coaches and fans in Bellingham stunned.

The impact of the announcement certainly didn’t stop there, however, as connections to the WWU football program reach deep into the Snoqualmie Valley. Both Mount Si head football coach Charlie Kinnune and defensive coordinator Wayne Lewis are products of that program.

Mount Si gymnasts enjoy record night

There’s nothing like a new school record to help shake off the rust.

After missing four weeks of competition due to snow piles and a flood, the Mount Si gymnastics team finally returned to the floor Jan. 15 in a meet against league foes Newport and Issaquah. The Wildcats returned in style too, scoring a new school record for team points with 159.5. Read more

Snoqualmie seeks permanent skate park

It appears that a group of skateboarders in Snoqualmie could get a skate park they’ve sought for months, but may have to wait a while longer to get it.

Snoqualmie Parks Director Al Frank thinks that skaters within the city will get behind a proposal to build a permanent skate park that could take years to build, rather than push for a short-term solution to the problem of finding a place for skaters in the community. Read more

Everclear to play at pub anniversary in Snoqualmie

After a year of serving burgers and booking bands, Finaghty’s Irish Pub & Restaurant is inviting the Snoqualmie Valley to celebrate its anniversary with professional athletes and eight bands.

The headliner for the bands is Pacific Northwest alternative rock band Everclear, the 1998 Billboard Modern Rock Band of the year.

Bellevue bruises way to win over Mount Si

Mount Si didn’t get the upset it was hoping for.

Still, feeling more comfortable against all that size and athleticism isn’t too bad a consolation prize.

Using a big first period and a balanced effort, third-ranked Bellevue defeated the Wildcats 77-59 in a boys basketball game Jan. 17 at Mount Si. The loss dropped the Wildcats to 6-4 overall on the season, but also served as a bit of an educational experience. Read more

State officials address state of education

Local representatives and senators answered questions about the state of education and its funding at a roundtable organized by the Snoqualmie Valley PTSA Council Jan. 9. In attendance were Representative Glenn Anderson and Senator Cheryl Pflug from the 5th District, as well as Representative Roger Goodman and Senator Eric Oemig from the 45th District.

Representative Larry Springer did not attend. Jay Rodne, a representative from the 5th District, did not attend either, but said he would come to the April 20 Snoqualmie Valley PTSA Council meeting.
