Snoqualmie announces new public works director

Snoqualmie’s City Council had a light agenda at its first meeting of 2009, but did announce a new public works director.

The council approved travel and living expenses for Dan Marcinko, who is to serve as the city’s new public works director. The city has been without an official public works director since August when former director Kirk Holmes left the city to assume a similar post in Kittitas County. Alan Lobdell has served as interim public works director since August. Read more

Sister Cities delegation comes to Snoqualmie

Twelve high school students from Gangjin, South Korea, received a warm welcome to Snoqualmie Friday, Jan. 9, at the Salish Lodge.

The students, who will spend five weeks learning at Mount Si High School, are part of a cultural exchange program. The evening was also marked by a signing of a memorandum of friendship between Snoqualmie and Gangjin, as part of the international Sister Cities Association.

Game with Bellevue can’t come soon enough

After too many days of rest, Wildcats ready for key league matchup

The Mount Si boys basketball team has had its Jan. 16 game with Bellevue circled on the calendar for a while.

Add to that already-existing anticipation a mass of recently postponed games and a few others in which the Wildcats lost in the final minute, and they’ll likely be bouncing of the walls come game time.

Debris drop-off locations set up in the Valley

The King County Council has unanimously adopted legislation to assist the victims of December’s snow and January’s floods in their recovery. The Council authorized the county to waive the fees for disposal of storm-related debris for all County residents who are part of the King County solid waste system. To facilitate disposal of flood debris, the King County Solid Waste Division also will have temporary drop-off facilities set up this weekend in hard-hit communities in the Snoqualmie Valley. Kevin Boyd, eBay education specialist, published author and Snoqualmie resident, will teach the class, “ eBay 1: The Basics of eBay Selling” at the library, 115 E. 4th St., North Bend from 10 a.m. — 1 p.m. Jan. 17.

When veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces are in need of a career boost, WorkSource Redmond’s Paul Sanchez steps up to the plate. 

“They bend over backwards to help you find work,’ said Snoqualmie resident David Wells. “There are classes for the resume. There are classes to get work. I can go in and go online at the employment agency. They have found jobs for me in the past that I have qualified for.

Cascade View team competes with LEGO robot

Many people recall fitting LEGO blocks together in their childhood, but few can say they programmed and built a LEGO robot for an international competition. 

Eight fourth- and fifth-grade students at Cascade View Elementary did just that. After three months of weekly after-school meetings, the group placed 15th against 22 other schools Dec. 13 at a regional competition in Bellevue.
