Thanks for your support
Thanks to the marvelous support of the community at the ballot box last week, the Snoqualmie Valley Schools Bond proposition is passing by a robust margin — 67 percent yes.
This strong showing, during what is a difficult economic time for many, is indicative of this community’s support for its schools and the children who attend them.
The facilities improvements funded through this proposition will strengthen our schools and our community. The community’s investment in its schools will enable us to maintain the structural integrity of existing facilities and provide additional classroom space at Mount Si High School to alleviate the overcrowding that exists there. This investment in the schools will also strengthen our community, as schools are considered by many to be a central component of a strong and vibrant community.
Most importantly, the young people of the Snoqualmie Valley, the students attending our schools today and in the years to come, will benefit as they learn, grow, and develop their talents in facilities that are safe, secure, and functional.
On behalf of the students who attend our schools, I thank you again for supporting this important bond proposition. As we move forward with the facilities improvements funded by this bond, I encourage you to visit the school district’s website www.svsd410.org and view the progress as the work unfolds to repair and upgrade our school facilities.

Please support legal rights for all
You may be aware that a bill that will grant additional legal rights to the nearly 5,000 lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered couples in Washington has been released from committee and will be voted on during this legislative session. You may also have seen negative campaigning related to these rights ramping up. I urge you to free our state from the politics of fear and contact your state representative in support of legal rights for all of our citizens.
If you consider the human impact for a moment, you will realize that the ramifications of our legislature’s actions effect real people, your own neighbors, family members, coworkers and friends.
Rather than succumb to unjustified fear we should ensure that every citizen of Washington State is treated equally under the law.
I will be in Olympia for Equality Day in support of LGBT legal rights because it is the moral thing to do and ask you to do your part to advance our state towards a future where we are guided by love and human compassion.

As an educator I appreciate Ken Hutcherson appearing each spring to provide a real teaching moment to our students. His message reminds us that intolerance exists in our own backyard not in some third world nation thousands of miles away. Intolerance comes in many faces and often distorts the voice of scripture, but the message is the same; fear those who are not like you. If Mr. Hutcherson must roll out and beat his tired drum of narrow-mindedness every spring when high school students ask for a Day of Silence, I can only hope his actions teach our children the importance of being fair minded and to act with compassion for those unlike themselves.
