Rise and shine awards handed out

This is the 13th year the Snoqualmie Valley Community Network has honored community members in the upper and lower Valley for their dedication to local causes. This year’s recipients joined each other for breakfast at Camp River Ranch in Carnation June 2 to celebrate their accomplishments and build community ties.
Rise and Shine Awards
Maria Scott translated Encompass programs into Spanish.
Beth Burrows served the North Bend Elementary, Snoqualmie Middle School, Mount Si High School PTSA groups as well as the district-wide PTSA Council.
Lisa Newell connected cancer survivors while battling cancer herself.
Lisa Beaver for raising two grandsons and her own child and volunteering in the schools.
Dave Humphrey, Kiwanis advisor to the Mount Si Key Club, volunteers for students.
Suzan and Rick Greenfield for volunteering in the Cascade Community Theatre Program. Rick also coordinates the Tolt Math Team and volunteers with the Site-Based Council.
Kim Birum volunteered as a Girl Scout leader, PTA member and school leader. She served on the Women’s Ministries Team at the Duvall Church and as a Bible study leader.
Mary Lynne Bracewell implemented a volunteer reading tutor program at Stillwater Elementary School as a literacy volunteer.
Jan-Olov Johansson volunteered his expertise to the SVCN to analyze data from the Healthy Youth Survey.
Lance Haddon volunteered his time to teach English language learners.
Joshua Siegel, a senior at Cedarcrest, is vice president of the National Honor Society, president of DECA and a student representative to the Riverview School Board. He has organized several fundraisers and is a member of ConnectedEDU.
Louisa Harm has volunteered in the Riverview School District since 1995.
Dan Mahowald founded the leadership program ConnectedEDU at Cedarcrest High School.
Kristi Connelly volunteers in the Riverview School District and at her church and rescues dogs.
Amanda Lantis organized emergency awareness programs in the Riverview School District.
Professional Contribution Award
Tim Nootenboom served as principal at Cascade View Elementary for four years before resigning this year. His leadership and enthusiasm helped shape a school and community.
Connecting a Caring Community Award
Regan Doyle of the Riverview School District has applied for almost $200,000 in grants for the SVCN from federal, state and local funding.
Prevention Scholarships
Ben Olson served the Mount Si High School ASB and campaigned for decreased drug and substance among students.
Gillian Kenagy is chair of the key club and National Honors Society. She visited Olympia to lobby for a teen health center and is a leader in the Youth Council.
