Only one Snoqualmie City Council seat will be contested in the 2009 elections, after a candidate withdrew from the race.
There were going to be two contested races, but candidate Cindy Deibler withdrew her name from the election on June 9. Deibler was running against Robert Jeans for Position 1 on the council.
In an e-mail to the SnoValley Star on June 9, she said that she was apprehensive about running against Jeans and did not find out until after the June 5 filing deadline that she could have run for any of the four council positions that were up for election.
“I’ll run again in 2011,” Deibler said.
Deibler’s withdrawal from the race leaves only one seat on the council contested. Snoqualmie City Council Position No. 5 is a race between incumbent Maria Henriksen, and challenger Terry Sorenson, who was unable to be reached for comment before deadline.
Snoqualmie City Councilman Bryan Holloway (Position No. 3), and Councilwoman Kathi Prewitt (Position No. 7), are both running unopposed for their seats on the council.
Snoqualmie Mayor Matt Larson is also running unopposed for his position.
In the election for North Bend’s two open City Council positions, both incumbents, Alan Gothelf and Ross Loudenback, are running unopposed.
Other uncontested elections in the Valley include spots on the Snoqualmie Valley Hospital District No. 4 and the Si View Metro Parks Districts board of directors. David Speikers (Position No. 1) and Joan Young (Position No. 5) are unopposed to retain their seats on the hospital’s board of directors.
Bud Raiso and Brenden Elwood are running unopposed for positions No. 4 and No. 5, respectively, on the parks’ board.
No candidates filed to run for the open Position No. 3 on King County Fire Protection District No. 38.
The Valley’s representative on the King County Council, Kathy Lambert (District 3), is also running unopposed.
The race for King County Executive has eight contenders, including Larry Phillips, Fred Jarrett, Stan Lippmann, Alan Lobdell, Susan Hutchison, Ross Hunter, and Goodspaceguy.
