Eastside Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Glenn Huffman described the woman’s condition as critical at the time of the accident.
According to Huffman, the woman was involved in a two-car collision on 436th Street North near the bridge over the South Fork of the Snoqualmie River.
Rescuers transported the driver of the other vehicle by ground to Overlake Hospital with less serious injuries.
The woman was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center because her condition, and the state of traffic on Interstate 90, made it necessary to transport her to a hospital by quicker means. A number of units participated in the accident response, including Snoqualmie firefighters and a ladder company from Issaquah. Huffman said an off-duty Bellevue fire captain helped select the landing zone for the helicopter.
Huffman complemented the work of rescuers, noting that crews did an excellent job in determining the woman’s medical condition and deciding to call for an air evacuation.
