Gregory Andrew Bissell
Gregory Andrew Bissell, of Snoqualmie, died Monday, June 29, 2009, at the Snoqualmie Hospital. He was 50.
A memorial potluck celebrating Greg’s life will be held from 2-4 p.m. July 11 at the Bissell home, 7770 Maple Ave. S.E., Snoqualmie.
Greg was born Jan. 10, 1959, in Kirkland, to Nancy and Joseph Bissell. He went to high school in Issaquah, playing football and working at the bowling alley. Greg finally settled in Snoqualmie. He ran his auto-body repair shop for years in the valley while raising his three children, Katrina, Dalton and Dillon Bissell.
Greg spent a lot of time at the family property in Tonasket, riding dirt bikes, snowmobiling and fishing. He loved cars and each of the kids learned how to drive in his lap at a very early age at the ocean or the dirt roads of Tonasket.
Greg loved football and will sorely be missed at Mount Si High School’s practices and games. He was the dad who knew every player’s name and was hollering encouragement from the sidelines. He was the dad who packed all the neighborhood kids to the pool or park to play football.
He will be missed by family and friends as he was always the guy there to help. He knew God and loved God and was ready to go home to see his Mom, Dad and brother Eric.
Survivors include his children Katrina Bissell, of Kirkland, Dalton and Dillon Bissell, of Snoqualmie, and his sister Laurie Whitley, of Chicago.
Merrill Gene ‘Redeye’ Pierce
Merrill Gene “Redeye” Pierce died June 27, 2009, at Overlake Hospital Medical Center in Bellevue. He was 67.
A celebration of Merrill’s life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 11, at Flintoft’s Issaquah Funeral Home, 540 E. Sunset Way.
Redeye was born Aug. 21, 1941, in Davenport, Iowa, to Charles and Eva Pierce. He was raised in Redmond and attended Lake Washington High School. In 1959, following high school, Redeye joined the United States Navy. He served his country for three years; his last duty assignment was aboard the USS Wilkinson.
After his honorable discharge in 1961, Redeye returned to the Seattle area, where he became a certified Volkswagen mechanic. He lived in Issaquah briefly, before settling in North Bend in 1970. Redeye went on to drive a truck for many years at Santana Trucking.
In 1983, Redeye met his future wife, Joan Teeter. On Nov. 7, 1998, they were married in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. In 2006, Redeye retired from Glacier Northwest, where he worked as a heavy equipment operator.
In his leisure time, Redeye loved to relax in his backyard with his family and ride his Harley. A history buff and World War II enthusiast, Redeye also enjoyed WWII stories, planes and ships.
Redeye is remembered by his family as a loving husband, father and grandfather who possessed a contagious personality and a huge heart. He was a man who would give the shirt off his back to those in need; he is deeply missed.
Survivors include his devoted wife, Joan Teeter, of North Bend; children Charles Roy Pierce and Matthew Adam Pierce, of Snoqualmie, Vincent Gene Pierce, of Seattle, and Jake Richard Pierce, of North Bend; siblings Richard Pierce, of Seattle, Jacqueline Hampton, of North Bend, Butch Pierce, of Hobart, and Tim Pierce, of Omak; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family members and friends.
