Shiny, clean cars will leave Les Schwab Tires Sept. 12. First, though, the Snoqualmie Valley Hospital Foundation needs to find volunteers to do the washing.
The foundation is looking for teenager and adult volunteers who will help wash cars at its wash-a-rama from 11 a.m. — 4 p.m. at Les Schwab Tires, 610 E. North Bend Way, North Bend. To learn more, contact Dr. Kat Halloran, who serves on the foundation’s board of directors, at 206-601-2612 or DrKat@QuantumLightHealthcare.com.
The proceeds will benefit a prescription drugs abuse awareness workshop the foundation will hold later this fall. Prescription drug abuse is a growing trend among Snoqualmie Valley youth. According to the 2008 Healthy Youth Survey, about 10 percent of 15- and 16-year-olds at Mount Si High School reported using painkillers to get high in a 30-day period, a number akin to the state average.
“We’re especially excited by this fundraiser, because all proceeds will support a healthier community and, in particular, our campaign against prescription drug abuse by teens,” Halloran said in a press release.
The foundation is separate from Snoqualmie Valley Hospital. A nonprofit, the foundation was founded in 2006 in memory of Carolyn Lavallee, an educator in the Snoqualmie Valley School District who died of pancreatic cancer in October 2005.
Those who do not have time to volunteer or bring their car to the wash-o-rama can support the foundation by mailing a tax-deductible donation to the Snoqualmie Valley Hospital Foundation to 9575 Ethan Wade Way S.E., Snoqualmie, WA 98065.
