The debate over what uses should be allowed on property at Interstate 90’s Exit 31 in North Bend goes all the way back to when the freeway bypassed the city’s downtown in 1978, according to Mayor Ken Hearing.

Referendum 71

The Washington State Legislature recently passed legislation, which the governor signed, to expand the rights of those in registered domestic partnerships recognized by the state. Those in opposition to this concept gathered a sufficient number of signatures to put this issue on the ballot.

This law should be approved!

Despite how the opposition may intend to mislead, this is not a gay marriage issue!

Voting to approve this referendum at least extends a blanket of protection to the families of those in domestic partnerships for the time being.

Families with children need the protections provided by domestic partnership laws, such as health insurance under their parents’ employer-provided plans. In addition, for seniors, domestic partnerships mean that their hard-earned social security, military or pension benefits are not put at risk.

I urge those of us in the Snoqualmie Valley who care about protecting all families in Washington to vote to approve Referendum 71!

Forster Woods
When are people going to wake up?! Forster Woods (FW) residents want a hotel in North Bend. We just don’t want it parked right in front of our child-friendly, safe, quiet neighborhood. The Star’s editorial wants to “draw a line in the sand” as stated by one of the pro-hotel attendees at the Sept. 24 planning commission (PC) meeting.
After attending the PC meeting and hearing all the whys and why nots, it occurred to me that the commission had already made up their minds on what direction they were going since the PC staff report was signed on Aug. 28.
The FW neighborhood will be greatly impacted by this hotel if built at the already approved location. Now, the PC is allowing balconies at the hotel, so people can see the grandeur of the beautiful Mount Si, but how about the rowdy skiers who will be using it for their coolers and blaring MP3 stereos until we have to call the police? Hey, we are all delinquents once right.
So much for our views, and thank you for reducing our property values.
Safety wasn’t even a priority for the PC during the meeting. It is all about the gateway that this golden calf will bring for North Bend (NB)
FW is not trying to hold NB hostage. We, being one of the largest of the neighborhoods, should have some say on trying to keep our neighborhood safe for our children. This will not be the case if the hotel is parked right in front of FW.

Saying ‘no’ to more development
I moved to North Bend over 15 years ago. I love it here!
I will not love a Hampton Inn marking the “Mountains-to-Sound” hillside. I’m sure that you’ve heard from many people with very good reasons to avoid a hotel in this location, so I will not repeat all of their good reasoning, with which I agree.
I want to say that the people who bought the property to build a hotel should have objected strongly to ever building the Forster Woods neighborhood in the first place —before it was ever built. But now that it is here, it is just plain wrong to put a hotel right next door to it! There are major issues with this and most sensible people know that.
