Snoqualmie Valley Hospital starts H1N1 FluMist vaccine

Snoqualmie Valley Hospital received a small shipment of swine flu vaccine Oct. 22, but the vaccines were only made available to local healthcare workers and firefighters.
SVH doesn’t require its healthcare workers to receive the swine flu vaccine, but SVH nurse and North Bend resident Kristi Greer decided to get it. Read more

Mount Si High School senior Alix Crandell may have her feet firmly planted on earth, but her aspirations reach all the way to Mars.
This summer Crandell participated in the July 12-17 Washington Aerospace Scholars camp at the Museum of Flight. She applied for the program after reading about Mount Si 2009 graduate Nic Gaudio’s experiences at the camp in the SnoValley Star. Read more
North Bend Library sponsors writing contests for all

Snoqualmie Valley writers of all ages can soon tap their creative muses for help in two contests — one local and the other national. The contests are open to both experienced and amateur authors.
The first contest, sponsored by Friends of the North Bend Library, is open to children in elementary, middle or high school. Participants who write a short story, play or poem before the deadline at 9 p.m. Nov. 30 are eligible to win a $50 gift card to Barnes & Noble. Read more

Were it not for places like Fall City Farms, kindergarten students might think pumpkins grow in grocery stores.

There was nary a supermarket in sight, but there were pumpkins galore at Fall City Farms Oct. 20. Red and orange leaves decorated deciduous trees on the brisk fall day, as a group of 45 North Bend Elementary kindergarteners scrambled around the farm. Read more
