Junior year is normally filled with college searches and SAT prep, but four Mount Si High School girls decided to try something a little more unconventional. They packed their bags and took a hiatus from life in Snoqualmie Valley, opting instead to study abroad in Switzerland, Germany, Australia and Paraguay. Read more

The Wildcats took sixth in the state 3A tournament after falling to Prairie and Bishop Blanchet.

The team played several tight matches to beat Lakes, which upset Mount Si last year, and Camas, which was ahead two matches to one before the Wildcats rallied to knock them off. Read more

  • The King County Library System Traveling Library Center needs volunteers to share their love of reading with someone who cannot use the library. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, have reliable transportation, and can select, deliver and return library materials to one shut-in patron at least once a month, for one year. County considers cutting support for senior center

King County Council will decide Nov. 19 whether to eliminate funding for the Mount Si Senior Center as part of the county’s plan to trim $6.5 million from its 2010 budget.

State legislators talk out of school on schools

Parents and politicians discussed teacher’s unions and paying for schools at a sparsely attended education roundtable hosted by the Snoqualmie Valley PTSA Nov. 9 at Mount Si High School.

Republican state Representatives Glenn Anderson (Fall City) and Jay Rodne (North Bend) and Democratic state Senator Eric Oemig (Kirkland) sat with PTSA members at lunch tables in Mount Si’s cafeteria, answering questions for about an hour and half. Read more

School district narrows possible fixes to projected overcrowding

District considering expanding high school and building new middle school.

Snoqualmie Valley schools have narrowed down the possible solutions to the district’s forecasted overcrowding but haven’t settled on a final option yet.

The district’s Long-Term Facility Planning Committee recommended two of five options at the school board’s Nov. 12th meeting. It will now further consider the two choices before sending its preference to the board in February. Read more
