Bellevue overwhelms Mount Si in 3A football playoffs

Mount Si coach Charlie Kinnune knew his team had to stop Bellevue’s big plays if the Wildcats were going to have a chance to make it to past the first round of the Class 3A playoffs.
But from beginning to end, the top-ranked Wolverines controlled the game at Bellevue Memorial Stadium. Senior running back Sean Coley scored on a 64-yard run on the game’s opening play. Read more

The man who robbed the North Bend Sterling Savings bank last week could have hit a bank in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood Monday afternoon Nov. 9, according to FBI investigators.
The suspect in each case has a similar build and used a similar style to rob the two banks, according to Special Agent Robbie Burroughs. Read more
Seniors lead Wildcats volleyball team to state tournament

Despite overcast skies, Shelagh Macauly and Robyn Schirmer felt good when they got onto a bus full of their teammates bound for the girls’ volleyball 3A state tournament in Kennewick. As the team’s only two seniors, they’ve helped lead Mount Si back to states for its third consecutive year.
The pair has to lead the Wildcats past a rematch Nov. 13 with the Lakes Lancers from University Place in Tacoma. The Lancers upset the Cats last year at states in the opening round, 3-2. Read more

Halftime adjustments and a combination of running and passing offense carried Mount Si past Hazen Nov. 7 and into the second round of the postseason. It was another night of a common story during this season’s second half: despite nasty weather, the Wildcats won thanks to their focus and power offense.

Modern treasure hunt ends with nighttime rescue

In a high-tech search to find buried treasure, a hiker fell as far as 30 feet while bushwacking off trail in the Gifford Lakes area Oct. 24, injuring his knee and requiring an emergency night rescue.
Fortunately, the global positioning system he was using to find the cache allowed him to tell the King County Sheriff’s search and rescue crew his exact geographic location. Read more

School district outlines steps for complaints

Fall City parent Steve Marquis had a bone to pick with the Snoqualmie Valley School Board about the district’s controversial issues policy at the Oct. 22 meeting.
“I think your policies that you put out have got to most ears, with the exception of one teacher who abused their students last quarter,” Marquis said.
Marquis said he had heard from a Mount Si student that a teacher had “forced the entire class to read ‘gay’ poetry.” Read more
