North Bend could receive a grant worth nearly $17,000 from the U.S. Department of Commerce to defray the cost of updating the city’s Comprehensive Plan in 2010 and 2011.
A Comprehensive Plan is a long-range guide for future development of a city. It addresses a wide gamut of policy topics, including land use, housing, environmentally sensitive areas, transportation, capital facilities, utilities, economic development, and parks and open space.
Under Washington’s Growth Management Act, cities are required to update their plans every seven years to ensure that it is in compliance with state statutes.
North Bend will be updating its plan in 2010 and 2011. It will provide numerous opportunities for public input and involvement, according to city officials.
City staff members are currently reviewing the Comprehensive Plan to identify where updates are necessary to conform to state statutes.
Watch for notices of workshops and hearings in the newspaper regarding the Comprehensive Plan update in the coming year.
