The Mount Si boys basketball team pounced on Juanita Jan. 8, snagging a 69-49 victory.

The boys team is now 8-4 overall on the season and 3-0 in conference play.

“The kids played really hard,” head coach Jeff D’Ambrosio said. “Everyone played really hard, really well. It was a very well-rounded effort by them. If you look at the stats sheet, we were really balanced.”

Juanita never had a chance, as Mount Si came out the gate strong and never let up.

By halftime, the Wildcats already had a 15-point lead.

Tanner Riley led Mount Si with 17 points. He also racked up four assists and four rebounds.

Anthony McLaughlin scored 10 points and recorded two assists, 10 rebounds and two steals.

Justin Downer, Dallas Smith, Lucas Zupan and Zander Nelson also played well for the Wildcats, each scoring eight points.

Smith also had four assists, five rebounds and a steal. Zupan had one block and five rebounds.

Nelson had four assists, four rebounds and two steals.

Dillon Shain had a tremendous overall game, finishing with five assists, 10 rebounds and three steals in addition to his four points.

“We were playing like a team,” Shain said. “We just came out strong.”

D’Ambrosio said Shain in particular played very well.

“That’s the ultimate game for us. That’s what we want these guys doing,” he said regarding Shain’s performance. “He only scored four points, but he did everything else.”

Mount Si played Interlake on Jan. 12, after the Star’s deadline.

Next, the boys face Bellevue on the road at 8:15 p.m. Jan. 15.

Bellevue is first in the KingCo 2A/3A division with a 4-0 conference record and an 11-0 overall record.

“Bellevue is really good. They’re really fast and aggressive and athletic,” D’Ambrosio said. “It’s going to be a great game. We’re playing really great basketball right now, so it should be a lot of fun.”
