Wrestling team falls to Skyline, Issaquah

The Mount Si wrestling team lost to Skyline 45-33 and Issaquah 48-33 at a dual meet Jan. 28.

The Wildcats were missing two of their top wrestlers. Both Andrew Sypher and Cody Botten were out due to illnesses.

“Our go-to guys were out of the lineup,” coach Tony Schlotfeldt said.

Nonetheless, the match was close.

“Our big guys kept us close in the match,” he said.

Against Skyline, Mount Si’s Ben Larson pinned Skyline’s Ryan Anderson, and Mount Si’s Trey Botten pinned Skyline’s Ben Reh.

Also, Mount Si’s Zach Storm pinned Sean McAlhaney in just 22 seconds. Furthermore, Mount Si’s Shane Dixon defeated Skyline’s Ryan Adamson 4-3.

However, Skyline wrestlers defeated Mount Si wrestlers Cody Bizzell, McKenzie Will, Bruce Stuart and Conor Klupar, securing the win for the Spartans.

Against Issaquah, Mount Si’s Cody Botten pinned Issaquah’s Almen Thorpe, and Mount Si’s Erik Sorvik pinned Issaquah’s Matt Solusod.

Also, Mount Si’s Conner Deutsch defeated Issaquah’s Taylor Evans 16-15, and Zach Storm defeated Issaquah’s Alex Stevens, 8-2.

However, Issaquah wrestlers defeated Mount Si wrestlers Botten, Larson, Klupar, Dixon, William Beach and McKinley Cook to secure the win for the Eagles.

Schlotfeldt said he expects six or seven wrestlers to advance to the postseason regional tournament in February.
