Six-year-old Miriam Ricks, of Snoqualmie, gazes into the eye of a Gila monster at a hands-on presentation by Scott Petersen, the Reptile Man. The Monroe-based herpetologist gave an hourlong display, which included snakes, turtles, a lizard and an alligator, for several hundred children and parents March 12 at Si View Community Center. The event was part of a free series, called Family Night, co-sponsored by Encompass and Si View Metro Parks. Encompass is offering a class March 19, called “Roving Reptiles,” taught by Bothell herpetologist Clayton Green. For information, visit www.encompassnw.org. (Photo contributed by Clay Eals)
