During an evening of heavy rain and wind April 2, the Mount Si boys soccer team took down Liberty 4-0, bringing Mount Si’s record to 5-0-2.
Chace Carlson scored his first goal of the season at 8 minutes and Dyson Fowler scored at 33 minutes, giving Mount Si a 2-0 lead at halftime.
The second half began with Mount Si’s Jonathan Cramer and Liberty’s Aaron Potoshnik receiving yellow cards at 47 and 48 minutes, respectively.
At 62 minutes, Fowler made another run on goal, and fancy footwork put him in a one-on-one showdown against Liberty goalkeeper Logan Robinson.
Fowler rocketed a shot past Robinson to give the Wildcats a 3-0 lead.
“It feels great to just put it by the defenders and just put it away,” Fowler said. “It’s a good feeling.”
Finally, at the buzzer, Kody Clearman knocked in his second goal of the season.
“Clearman has had two buzzer-beaters,” Mount Si head coach Darren Brown said, referring to Clearman’s March 30 goal against Mercer Island as well. “We’re going to have to think of a nickname for him.”
Although the game was a shutout, Brown said the team needs to tighten its play.
“We didn’t move the ball quite as efficiently as I would have hoped for,” he said, adding that the team needs to continue working on maintaining possession.
However, he said Fowler was a standout in the game. Going into the season, he said Fowler’s goals for the season were 10 goals and 5 assists.
Now, just a month into the season, Fowler has already racked up 6 goals and 3 assists.
“He’s on pace to shatter that,” Brown said.
Goalkeeper Ryan Herman was on his game once again, recording his fifth shutout of the season.
Mount Si also played Sammamish High School on the road April 6, but this game was after the Star’s deadline.
Next, Mount Si will play Interlake High School at home at 7:30 p.m. April 9 and Juanita High School on the road at 7:30 p.m. April 13.
