New course record set in Mount Si 50-mile race

Paige Longdon cruises past Mount Si on the Snoqualmie Valley Trail in North Bend during the Mount Si Relay on April 11. Defending champion Ryne Melcher set a new course record for the Mount Si 50-mile ultra run April 11, finishing the course in 5 hours, 54 minutes, 15 seconds.
The 50-mile run, a 50-kilometer run and 59-mile relay race drew around 700 runners.
The 31-year-old Melcher, who lives in North Vancouver, B.C., shaved 22 seconds off the previous record, set by James Kerby, of Carnation, in 2001.
Jody Aslett, of Sandpoint, Idaho, was the top female finisher. The 41 year old ran the course in 7:34:40, finishing ninth overall.
Jeff Hashimoto finished the 50-kilometer run in 3:28:37. The 39-year-old runner is from Ellensburg.
The top female finisher was Annie Thiessen, of Tacoma. The 39-year-old runner finished fifth overall in 3:59:05.
Ather Haleem, of Snoqualmie, was the top finisher from upper Snoqualmie Valley. The 29 year old finished 19th in 4:49:13.
All races in the 27th annual event, presented by Eastside Runners and FootZone stores, start and end at Snoqualmie Elementary School, with runners covering the Snoqualmie Valley Trail
