Lefty Trevor Lane still flashing power after baseball season
June 30, 2010
High school baseball might be over for the year, but Mount Si’s Trevor Lane isn’t finished. The patient and powerful hitter is showing off his stuff for the Washington Brewers in the Seattle Premier League.
The sophomore had an impressive season for the Wildcats this year, posting a .453 batting average and .559 on-base percentage.
Lane had a productive day June 23, when the Brewers played a doubleheader against the Puget Sound Roxx. The Brewers won the first game 5-2 and the second 13-2.
In the first game, Lane went 2-4, with a double and one run batted in.
In the second game, he went 2-3, scored three runs and had two RBIs.
The sophomore is playing with some of the country’s top talent.
The Tampa Bay Rays selected Lane’s teammate Josh Sales, of Bishop Blanchet High School in Seattle, in the baseball draft’s first round with the 17th overall pick.
Wildcats earn top honors on All-KingCo 3A/2A boys soccer team
June 30, 2010
After winning its first-ever league championship, Mount Si’s boys soccer team is well represented on the All-KingCo 3A/2A team.
Goalkeeper Ryan Herman, who has drawn national attention for his high-caliber play, was named the league’s Player of the Year, and Darren Brown was named Coach of the Year by his fellow coaches.
Several Mount Si players were named to the all-league first team, including Herman, who just finished his junior year of school.
Sam Evans, who just graduated, represented the Wildcats on defense.
Joining Evans are two classmates, midfielder Doug Silvius and striker Dyson Fowler. Midfielder Eric Baumgardner, a junior, was also on the team.
Silvius and Fowler were among the team’s top scorers. Baumgardner played a critical role in controlling the ball and moving it down the field.
Behind him, Evans led a talented defensive section, which was often overshadowed by the exploits of Herman but never lacked in quality of play.
Wildcats also peppered the second team.
It included sophomore Dane Aldrich on defense and junior Kyle Baumen in midfield.
Jonathan Cramer and Sam Joselyn earned honorable mention.

America’s Great Outdoors Initiative — a national program spearheaded by President Obama — has chosen to highlight the Mountains to Sound Greenway as a success.
The national initiative supports community efforts to conserve outdoor spaces and to reconnect people and the outdoors.
The greenway has been selected for field visit from 8:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday. Greenway leaders — joined by representatives from Cascade Land Conservancy, state Department of Natural Resources, U.S. Forest Service and other stakeholders — plan to discuss land acquisition, working farms and forests, recreation and stewardship at Snoqualmie Point Park, 37580 S.E. Winery Road.
The greenway, a greenbelt strung along Interstate 90, stretches from the Seattle waterfront to Central Washington.
“We are very excited to have the opportunity to share our past successes and vision for the future,” Doug Schindler, deputy director of Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust, said in a news release. “Findings from these sessions will be compiled into a report for the president this fall and be used to develop strategies for the federal government to assist communities with conservation efforts. The greenway blends a rich history of conservation, stewardship and collaboration.”
