Minor in possession

About 3:05 p.m. Aug. 27, an officer in the 8200 block of Railroad Avenue Southeast noticed a 1997 gray Dodge pickup truck at a gas station with three young males standing next to an open passenger door. The officer saw one of them hand another a gallon bottle of vodka. As the officer approached the vehicle, he saw one of the males pour the vodka into a one-liter water bottle. Although the man pouring the vodka was over 21, the two others were underage and had been drinking. One of them was arrested on charges of minor in possession. Further search yielded a second bottle of vodka in his backpack and an outstanding warrant.

Identity theft

At 7 p.m. Aug. 27, a man told an officer that months ago he filled a financial loan questionnaire online and that Aug. 25 someone identifying himself as a representative from a law firm in San Francisco called him. The man told him he was delinquent on payments for an Internet loan. The man, who had taken loans via the Internet, gave the man his information, including Social Security number, checking account number and date of birth. The man agreed to make a $125 payment, hung up and then realized he had taken no such loan. The next day another man from a Seattle-area number called and told him the first man had been a scammer and that he needed to make a new payment, to him this time. The man hung up and contacted police. He received an identity-theft packet and was instructed to let the men know, if they called again, that he had talked to police.

Animal complaint

At 10:45 p.m. Aug. 28, a caller reported that a dog had been barking for hours at a nearby residence. An officer found the dog owner had been drinking and passed out. The officer put the dog inside the home and secured it.

Drunk driving

At 1:18 a.m. Sept. 1, an officer near the intersection of Silva Avenue Southeast and Southeast River Street noticed a white 1999 Toyota westbound on River Street. What followed were several turns and erratic driving. When stopped, the driver, identified as 31-year-old James Wahsise, told the officer something like, “Take me to jail.” The officer noticed Wahsise’s glassy eyes, slurred speech, poor coordination and smell of alcohol in his breath. A check on Wahsise’s record showed he had a suspended license with an ignition interlock required. The only passenger in the car leaned across Wahsise and identified herself as the registered owner of the car. Wahsise was arrested for driving with a suspended license and the passenger, who was too intoxicated to drive, asked a neighbor to drive the car to avoid getting it towed. Wahsise was later charged with a DUI.

North Bend

Residential burglary

At 4 p.m. Aug. 29, an officer responded to a reported residential burglary in the 17400 block of 453rd Avenue Southeast. A man noticed that his neighbor’s rear door had been kicked in and called police. The house had been ransacked. The officer contacted the residents, who had been in Idaho since Aug. 23.

Give me everything you have

At 3:30 p.m. Aug. 29, an officer responded to a reported robbery in the 39700 block of Southeast 53rd Street. The victim told the officer he had met with a man he owed $40 to and had told the man that he didn’t have any money. The suspect threatened the man and ordered him to give him everything in his pockets. The man complied and gave him his wallet and car key. Later, at his home, the man heard his car starting. The suspect drove off with his car and sent him a text message that said he would get his car back when he repaid the $40.

I know that face

At 10:50 p.m. Aug. 28, an officer was driving near the intersection of 432nd Avenue Southeast and Southeast Cedar Falls Way, when he saw a black Kia driving toward him. The officer recognized the driver, who he knew to have a suspended license. The officer stopped the vehicle and ran the driver’s name, which confirmed he had a suspended license due to unpaid tickets. The officer had the man’s wife drive the car home. The man was charged with driving with a suspended license.

Vandalism

At 2:42 p.m. Aug. 28, an officer responded to a report of vandalism on Southeast 11th Place. The man told police his car had been parked on the road since the previous night, and that glue had been put on the car’s driver’s side window and passenger door. The window would not roll down and the door opened only after several tries. Two empty bottles of Elmer’s Super Glue were on the car’s hood.

Car prowl

At 2 p.m. Aug. 28, police responded to a report of a car that had been broken into. The woman had parked her car in the 42300 block of Southeast Reinig Road. She told a police officer she had been out with friends for three hours. When she returned, she found the rear, passenger side window was broken. Her medication, a digital camera, the car’s CD player faceplate and 30 CDs were missing.

Fraud

At 10:03 a.m. Aug. 26, police took a report of fraud from a resident. The man told police he had received a call from Home Depot credit card services verifying a substantial charge on a new card opened in his name. The man said he had not opened the card and had not purchased anything.
