Pitching ruled the day in the championship game of the 3A KingCo Conference tournament. Mount Si’s Reece Karalus pitched eight innings of shutout ball, while Lake Washington’s Spencer Jackson quieted the Wildcats bats for nearly as long.
But in the end, a one-out RBI single to right field ended the game and earned Mount Si a trip to the state playoffs for the first time since 1997. Second baseman Dustin Breshears drove the ball to right, scoring Ryan Atkinson from third. It was Breshears only hit of the night, but it was enough to win the game 1-0.
The hard-throwing Karalus threw 108 pitches and notched six strikeouts. He only allowed three hits and no walks.
Jackson was nearly as good. He scattered seven hits over the game.
