Seattle police officer kills himself in North Bend

Officials said a Seattle police officer arrested in a drug investigation early Thursday morning died at a Seattle hospital hours later after sustaining a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The man shot himself near North Bend’s John Wayne Pioneer Trail.

Seattle police said the officer, a 50-year-old Issaquah man, had been suspected of using crack cocaine — possibly drugs stolen from case evidence. The man died at Harborview Medical Center late Thursday afternoon. Read more

North Bend honors three citizens struck with gift of giving

North Bend honored three of its residents for their contributions to their community at the Jan. 3 City Council meeting. Mayor Ken Hearing presented awards for Citizen of the Year and two new awards — Youth Citizen of the Year and Community Spirit.

The Community Spirit award will not be given annually, unlike the other two, and instead, it will be reserved for special recognition of individuals and groups, Hearing said.

Kathy Lambert: King County is working hard to be lean but more cuts coming

King County is working hard to improve its operations. That was the message County Councilwoman Kathy Lambert shared with North Bend City Council at its Jan. 3 meeting.

She had stopped by to swear in the mayor and council members following the November election. Lambert took the opportunity to give the state of the county to the City Council.
