Mount Si High School’s gymnastics team members shed tears of joy at the end of a long Friday Feb. 15  after the team earned third place at the state meet in Tacoma.

The team enjoyed a variety of scrapbook-worthy performances from its gymnasts on its way to a third-place finish, the best finish in the program’s history. The Wildcat team trailed only Kamiakin and Enumclaw in points.

Head coach Jessica Easthope called the result “the natural progression of a terrific season.”

The team arrived in Tacoma as the defending league and district champion. After a shaky start on bars, the team regrouped and performed well on beam, floor and vault. Three gymnasts achieved scores of nine or higher on floor.

Jen Rogers and Hannah Richmond also qualified for the individual finals, happening Saturday at the Tacoma Dome.

Stay tuned for further coverage throughout Saturday from the Dome.
