Lauren Smith, who recently graduated from Mount Si High School, is heading to Virginia to play softball at Lynchburg College this fall.

Michael Smith, her father as well as the Mount Si Lacrosse Club Girls director, said Lauren was offered $275,000 in athletic and academic scholarships, but chose Lynchburg because it’s a small, private school, “and she is drawn to the East Coast, where I am from and we visit every year for vacation.”

She is getting a partial academic scholarship and grants from the Virginia school, equaling about $75,000.

Lauren was a multisport athlete at Mount Si, having played volleyball and softball during her four-year high school career.

Michael said Lauren isn’t one to toot her own horn, but as a father looking back on her career, “I couldn’t believe what a career she has had in the Valley, given her modest nature and desire to always make everyone around her better, rather than talk and think about herself.”

The volleyball player and softball center fielder was named Mount Si’s 2013 Female Athlete of the Year, lettered all four years in both sports and made six state championship appearances in those two sports.

Achievements in her multisport career include:

Softball

• Two state appearances

• 2013 Second Team All-KingCo

• 2013 Co-captain

• 2013 Lady Wildcat of the Year Award

• 2013 Coaches Award

• 2012 Second Team All-KingCo

• 2012 Co-captain

• 2011 Offensive MVP

• 2011 State Sportsmanship Award recipient

• 2011 First Team All-KingCo

• 2010 First Team All-KingCo

Volleyball

• Four state appearances

• 2012 First Team All-KingCo

• 2012 Co-captain

• 2012 State Sportsmanship Award recipient

• 2011 First Team All-KingCo

• 2011 Co-captain

• 2011 State Sportsmanship Award recipient

• 2010 Honorable Mention All-KingCo

Michael said Lauren plans to study pre-veterinary medicine while attending Lynchburg College.
