Judy Mulligan, a wife, mother, grandmother and friend, died Saturday, June 5, 2010. She was 68.

Judy Mulligan

Born July 27, 1941, to Elmer and Betty Bergren, she was the second of six children. Judy lived with her family in Olympia and graduated from Olympia High School in 1959.

She trained in medical imaging after high school and was a practicing X-ray technician in Portland, Ore., and in Seattle. She loved this challenging career for the opportunity it gave her, daily, to help others in need.

It was while training for this profession that she met her husband of 47 years, John Mulligan. They met in 1960, fell in love and were married in 1963. The four boys arrived in quick succession over the following years while the growing family “toured” the United States courtesy of John’s successful career with the postal service.

Judy was the consummate wife and mother. She also had another full-time job as partner to John in all the social obligations required by his career. She managed the household, raised four rambunctious boys and packed and moved the family more times than we can recall. We still marvel at how she handled it all with such grace and strength. She has been our rock and our inspiration.

Judy left a wonderful trail of lifelong, devoted friends throughout the U.S. and abroad. A great many family friends live in other states and several countries and they are grieving along with us. We are grateful for your condolences, support and prayers. Bless you all for your devotion to Judy.

Friends, travel and socializing were some of her favorite things. Judy loved cooking and was a talented gourmet chef. She loved a house full of family and friends enjoying her latest culinary creation (and boy did we ever).

Her greatest joy by far were her four grandchildren.

There are no words to properly express how greatly Judy will be missed by her family and friends. She enriched the lives of everyone she touched. Her strength, compassion and good humor will be with us always.

Vezzoni

Bob was born Nov. 11, 1925, in Snoqualmie, to Peter and Mary Vezzoni. He was raised in Snoqualmie, where he graduated from Snoqualmie High School in 1943. In January 1944, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy. He proudly served his country in the Pacific Theatre of operations during World War II. Bob was stationed aboard the USS YMS No. 40, a minesweeper.

On Feb. 1, 1947, Bob married Florence Young in Snoqualmie. They settled in Snoqualmie, where they raised three children. Bob opened a successful restaurant in the Meadowbrook Hotel. He also worked at the Weyerhaeuser Lumber Co., and later, Mountain Tree Farm as a scaler. He then went to work for King County Department of Transportation, where he was a heavy equipment operator. He retired after 25 years in 1982.

In 1998, Bob and Florence built a home at the Blueberry Farm at the base of Mount Si in North Bend. He would often remark about his home being the most beautiful place on earth. To him, it was paradise.

Bob’s greatest love and what brought him the most joy was his family, his cat Zorro, friends and neighbors. He cherished nothing more than family gatherings, holidays and celebrations that brought his family closer together and he loved to cook for many of these get-togethers. Bob also possessed a green thumb, growing all kinds of vegetables and flowers and feeding his birds.

Bob loved to hunt and fish and even as a young boy, he was very well known throughout the valley. Bob especially enjoyed his yearly trips to Slave Lake, Alberta, Canada, to go moose hunting. He treasured his many vacations with family either to Canada or one of the many lakes in Eastern Washington. Bob also kept the blueberry customers entertained with his music, playing many afternoons and evenings from his deck.

Bob will forever be remembered by his family as a generous man with a giving heart; and a loving, caring and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who also happened to be the “best story and joke teller” ever! He will be deeply missed and loved always.

Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Florence, of North Bend; children Michael Robert Vezzoni, of Seattle, Jayne Marie (Steve) Bybee, of North Bend, and John Eugene Vezzoni, of North Bend; brothers Tony Vezzoni (Lyn), of Cle Elum, and Willie Vezzoni, of Snoqualmie; granddaughters Kelli Berlin (Tom) and Michelle Bybee; great-granddaughter Makenna Berlin; and a host of extended family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests remembrances to Eastside Fire & Rescue or Snoqualmie Valley Alliance Church.

At his request, private family services were held at Fall City Cemetery.

Friends are invited to view photos, share memories and sign the family’s online guest book at www.flintofts.com.

Arrangements were entrusted to Flintoft’s Funeral Home and Crematory.

William ‘Bill’ E. Bedell was born Aug. 3, 1949, in Bridgeport, Conn., and died Feb. 12, 2010.

It was with great sadness that hundreds of people filled Mount Si High School’s auditorium Feb. 21 to honor Bill’s life.

He was well known throughout the Pacific Northwest due to his pastoral work at Snoqualmie Valley Alliance Church and the business he shared with his wife, Leslie.

He touched hundreds of people through their Life Recovery Skills business.

In 2002, he and Leslie were asked to launch the Celebrate Recovery program in the Snoqualmie Valley. Bill tirelessly served the people who came through the program’s doors.

In 2006, he was chosen to be the Northwest representative on the program’s national team.

Under his leadership helping churches and ministries launch the program, the Northwest region was noted as one of the fastest growing sectors in the U.S.

Bill used his own journey of recovering from anger and addiction begun 17 years ago to teach and encourage others.

He was widely respected for his work, and since his death, many who knew him have said they had never felt unconditionally loved or fully accepted before working with him.

Finally, Bill was never ashamed of his faith in Jesus as his personal savior and looked for any opportunity to share it with others.

He is survived by his wife, Leslie; his son, William Bedell, Jr.; his daughter-in-law Christy, of Federal Way; and three grandchildren.

In his honor, the Bill Bedell Scholarship Fund has been set up to provide financial aid to those in need of counseling and healing resources but unable to afford them.

Fundraising events will include an Alpine Lakes Hike and a motorcycle ride. To support the fund, contact the Bill Bedell Scholarship Fund at P.O. Box 1470, North Bend, WA 98045.

Thomas Henry Creighton passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones during his final hours, on Thursday, March 25, 2010, at the age of 91.

Thomas Creighton best known as “Tom” or “Tommy” was born Jan. 29, 1919, in Winchester, Mass., to Thomas and Elizabeth Creighton.

He was raised in Woburn, Mass., and graduated from Brockton High School in 1937. Tommy was a record-breaking cross country star, qualifying for the 1940 Summer Olympics. It was unfortunate that he never got the honor of competing for our country, as the Olympics were cancelled due to the outbreak of World War II.

He moved from Massachusetts to California in 1940 to attend Aero ITI and various colleges, and through perseverance graduated with a degree in engineering. Shortly after arriving in California, he met and married the love of his life, his wife, Dorothy “Dot” Entz, whom had recently moved to California from Colorado. They were married in 1941 and they enjoyed 68 wonderful years of marriage. They were often lightheartedly referred to as the “Bobbsey Twins.” They have one daughter, Charlene Hund.

In 1942, Tommy was enlisted in the Navy and served as an apprentice seaman stationed in San Diego, Calif.

Tommy was employed as an aeronautical engineer by North American Rockwell for 38 dedicated years. He had many honorable accomplishments, but one we remember him being most proud of was his work on the Space Shuttle program. He saw the project through completion and retired shortly after the first shuttle flight, which he was honored to attend.

He enjoyed many happy years residing at his home in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., and spent his weekends perfecting the landscape in the beautiful yard. His home was always a source of pride for him. Leisure time was spent playing golf and enjoying time with family and friends. Family vacations were often spent fishing in the High Sierras, his favorite lake being Saddlebag Lake. Many cherished memories were created there.

Following his retirement in 1979, Tom enjoyed his 31 years of retirement to the fullest. He filled his days with family, friends, golf, travel and woodworking.

In 1985, Tom and Dot moved to a wonderful retirement community, Casta del Sol in Mission Viejo, Calif. Tom took advantage of living in a golf course neighborhood and spent several days a week enjoying a game of golf with his many friends. Tom and Dot were both very involved with the shuffleboard club.

Tom applied his work ethic to the care of the shuffleboard courts, an assignment he took great pride in. He enjoyed both the competitive nature of the game as well as the social aspect. He often spoke of the memorable bus trips he enjoyed with their friends traveling to places such as Branson, Canyonlands, Las Vegas and Laughlin, just to mention a few. He declared with pride that he had traveled to every state in the United States except North Dakota and South Dakota.

Tom loved playing the slot machines and had a sixth sense about choosing the lucky machine more times than not. Tom and Dot formed countless lifelong friendships living within this community and treasured their years living there.

In 2006, Tom and Dot moved to Wash-ington to reside with their daughter and her family. Tom was really smitten by the beauty of the Pacific Northwest and the splendor of the mountains, the fall colors and spring blooms. It was rare that a day would pass that he didn’t mention the grandeur of his surroundings.

He took pleasure in watching the birds, squirrels and various forms of wildlife he enjoyed from every window. Summers were often spent cruising to Alaska, building more treasured memories. At the time of Tom’s passing, a family cruise was booked to Alaska. The family will continue with the cruise and dedicate the memories in his honor.

He treasured time spent with his family. He was extremely proud of his daughter, Charlene and his two grandsons, Brian and Matt, and was looking forward to the birth of his first great-grandchild. His grandsons have warmhearted memories of their Grandpa always being a loyal supporter of whatever sport they were involved in, rarely missing a game or event, and always offering encouragement. He was not a quitter and attributed his track successes to that mindset, and he inspired his daughter and grandsons to attain that level of determination.

Throughout his lifetime, he enjoyed many family cruises. True to his East Coast roots, he enjoyed the ocean and took every opportunity he could to spend time aboard a cruise ship with family and friends. Though a very unpretentious man by nature, he never hesitated to spend money on family vacations. He often remarked how special memories are and said that no dollar value could be placed on them. A wise man he was, as we are now blessed with these cherished memories that he so generously provided us. Though he has passed, the memories will last forever.

He was fascinated by lighthouses and we are so thankful that recently we traveled to the beautiful San Juan Islands in the Puget Sound, so that he could stand next to and look closely at the picturesque Lime Kiln lighthouse.

Tommy will be remembered as a devoted husband, caring father, cherished grandpa and thoughtful friend. He was an honorable, loyal, humble and supportive man. Family and friends alike will miss his kindness and wonderful sense of humor. The gift of memories with him we shall keep forever. We love him and we shall always miss him. All who knew him were blessed to have him around for 91 fantastic years.

Tommy is survived by his wife, Dorothy Creighton, of North Bend; daughter Charlene Hund, of North Bend; son-in-law Michael Hund, of North Bend; grandson Matt Hund, of North Bend; grandson Brian Hughes, of Santa Ana, Calif.; daughter-in-law Claudia Hughes, of Santa Ana, Calif; unborn great-grandbaby, of Santa Ana, Calif.; East Coast relatives consisting of a niece, Elizabeth Lois “Betty Lou” McCarthy, and nephews Lewis “Butch” Long and Jimmy Long, as well as a cousin, Pat Bly, and numerous dear friends throughout the states.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Elizabeth “Betty” Long Carr.

At his request, no services will be held. In his honor, the family suggests that everyone who knew and loved him make creating a memory with a loved one a priority in his or her life, and each time you look upon a lighthouse, remember that it showed the light to safely guide him home.

Family and friends are invited to share memories and sign the online guestbook at www.flintofts.com.

Michael Francis Busby, of Snoqualmie, died March 5, 2010, in Sierra Vista, Ariz. He was 64.

A memorial service and celebration of his life was March 13, at Snoqualmie Valley Alliance Church, Snoqualmie.

Michael was born Feb. 10, 1946, in Snoqualmie, to Cecil and Vaughan Busby. He was raised in Snoqualmie and attended Mount Si High School.
Michael was an operating engineer for Local Union 302. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Michael enlisted in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged Nov. 17, 1967. Michael married Cindy Dalman on Nov. 22, 1969, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Snoqualmie.

Michael was an operating engineer for Local Union 302. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

In his leisure time, Michael enjoyed motorcycle riding, spending time with his grandchildren, hiking and was a beekeeper. He also enjoyed a daily visit to Starbucks and spending springtime in Arizona.

He is remembered as adventurous and always on the go. He always had everyone laughing — and if the grandchildren were around, there was no chance of carrying on a conversation with him.

Michael is survived by his daughter Dana and her husband Mark Pray, of Fall City; his son Jarrod and his wife Heather, of Pittsburgh; his siblings, Terry Busby, Mary Ann Barth, Pat Busby, Claudia Busby, Brian Busby and Sally Busby-Hill; and five grandchildren.

A celebration of Barbara’s life followed by a reception was held 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. March 6 at Emily Dickinson Elementary School, 7040 208th Ave. N.E., Redmond.

Barbara was born Nov. 27, 1958, to the late Austin and Sylvia Sheldon.

Barbara met the love of her life, Peter Greenstreet, when she was 14, and married him Sept. 20, 1980. They went on to raise three wonderful children.

In addition to her devoted husband, she is survived and deeply missed by her children, Matthew Greenstreet (Sarah), of Bellingham, Adam, and Caroline Greenstreet, of Carnation; a brother, Brian Sheldon (Loretta) of Ferndale; three sisters, Kathleen Sheldon (Stephen Tarzynski), of Santa Monica, Calif., Jeannie Grippin, (Jim), of Everett, and Carol Schaffer (Eric), of Tucson, Ariz.; and many cherished nieces, nephews and friends.

Barbara graduated from Glastonbury High School, Glastonbury, CT in 1975, and received her Bachelor of Science in early childhood education from Wheelock College in Boston in 1979. She received her Master of Arts in counseling and special education from St. Joseph College in West Hartford, Conn., in 1989. She was in the process of obtaining her administrative credential at Seattle Pacific University, when her plans were waylaid by glioblastoma multiforme in October 2008.

She held positions at Children’s Services, of Sno-Valley (now Encompass), Riverview School District and, most recently, as a special educator at Emily Dickinson Elementary School in Redmond.

She was a longtime active member of Tolt Congregational Church, serving as Sunday school teacher, superintendent of the Sunday school, newsletter editor and moderator. Spiritual life was important to her and sustained her in day-to-day life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Barbara’s Brain Trust, a team of family and friends participating in the Seattle Brain Cancer Walk on June 26. Donations may be made online at www.braincancerwalk.org. Go to the Team List and select “Barbara’s Brain Trust”, then select “Support Barbara’s Brain Trust”.

Leslie Reinig Norton

Leslie Reinig Norton died peacefully at her home in Bothell, attended to by her daughters. She was 94.

A ceremony was held Feb. 27 at Monte Ville Farmhouse in Bothell. She is buried at Seattle’s Lakeview Cemetery.

Leslie was the second of three children born to Dionis G. and Hadassah Knapp Reinig, in Snoqualmie. She was the granddaughter of Seattle pioneers Leonard and Margarethe Schafer Reinig. She treasured family history and connections.

Born in 1915, Leslie graduated from Snoqualmie High School, attended Washington State University and graduated from the University of Washington.

She worked in Maynard Hospital’s lab and later as a journalist for the Snoqualmie Valley Record.

She married John (Jack) Norton in 1949. They moved to Bothell in 1950. Leslie was a devoted mother. She later worked in Jack’s accounting practice. She and Jack were founding members of the Northlake Unitarian Church in Kirkland and she was a member of the Washington Park Arboretum Unit No. 5.

Leslie loved nature and gardening. She enjoyed reading, watercolor painting and collecting textiles.

Her interest in current events prompted many letters and lively conversations. She was close to her daughters and grandchildren.

She is survived by two daughters, Mary Norton and husband Joe McElroy, of Snoqualmie, and Leslie Norton and husband David Clodfelter, of Seattle; her brother Edward Reining and his wife Carole, of Snohomish; and many grandchildren, extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jack and her sister Margarethe (Peggy) Reinig Jones, of Grandview.
