<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>James Michael McKiernan, son of Jim and Karen McKiernan, former owners of the Snoqualmie Valley Record, passed away early Sunday morning, Dec. 4, in Pasco.</p>
<p>James was a 2006 graduate of Mount Si High School, along with his father (1980), mother (1984) and sister (1988). He is also a graduate of Central Washington University, walking in commencement in June 2011. He had recently been hired by Connell Grain Growers in Connell as a seed broker and was living in Pasco.</p>
<div id="attachment_17919" class="wp-caption alignleft" style="width: 110px"><a href="http://snovalleystar.com/2011/12/08/james-mckiernan/mckiernan-obit" rel="attachment wp-att-17919"><img class="size-thumbnail wp-image-17919" title="McKiernan Obit" src="http://snovalleystar.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/McKiernan-Obit-100x150.jpg" alt="" width="100" height="150" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">James McKiernan</p></div>
<p>James was an avid fishermen, fly fishing being his passion, and had been know to take a few shots at passing deer and even an occasional coyote.</p>
<p>If you are a fan of Mount Si football you will remember him as the small center on the 2005 team who was not afraid to take on a nose tackle twice his size while hiking the ball to his good friend Rollin Smith.</p>
<p>His latest fun came from stirring up the world of seed sales for Connell Grain Growers and furnishing his new house with anything his parents were willing to give up.</p>
<p>James touched many lives in his short 23 years and will be remembered for his unwavering smile, flipping off his dad for taking too many pictures, begging his mother to bring down food and prodding his sister to keep her grades up at Central.</p>
<p><span id="more-17918"></span>Services will be held Saturday, Dec. 10, at noon, in the Mount Si High School Auditorium and will be officiated by Pastor Monty Wright. A graveside service will be held afterwards at the Fall City cemetery and a reception back at the Mount Si High School Commons.</p>
<p>Those wishing to post their thoughts and photos may do so on Jim McKiernan’s Facebook page.</p>
<p>James is survived by his mother Karen, father Jim, sister Lynnae, grandmother Avon Barquist, grandparents Bob and Sandie Scott, and grandmother Patricia McKiernan. He is also survived by numerous cousins, uncles, aunts and hundreds of friends.</p>
<p>Donations are suggested to the James McKiernan memorial scholarship fund at Mount Si High School.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Dr. Christian Arthur Vikari completed his mortal journey on Aug. 31, 2011, after a long and difficult illness. To those of us who knew and loved Art, it seems too soon to say goodbye, yet, there is comfort in knowing this wonderful, compassionate man is now free of the pain and suffering he endured these last few years.</p>
<div id="attachment_16375" class="wp-caption alignleft" style="width: 110px"><a href="http://snovalleystar.com/2011/09/07/christian-arthur-vikari/digimax-u-ca-5-kenox-u-ca-5-kenox-u-ca-50" rel="attachment wp-att-16375"><img class="size-thumbnail wp-image-16375" title="< Digimax U-CA 5, Kenox U-CA 5 / Kenox U-CA 50 >&#8221; src=&#8221;http://snovalleystar.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/obit-Christian-Vikari-100&#215;150.jpg&#8221; alt=&#8221;" width=&#8221;100&#8243; height=&#8221;150&#8243; /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Christian Arthur Vikari</p></div>
<p>Art leaves behind a great legacy of love for family and friends; caring, compassionate service to others; and an unfailing love of God. All who came within the reach of his smile and warm embrace will long remember how good they felt when they were with him.</p>
<p>Art was raised in Washington, yet his life journey truly began the day he married his sweet companion, Valine. They have been devoted partners in life for 27 years and will be companions forever in the eternities. Art and Valine have been blessed with five beautiful and talented children.</p>
<p><span id="more-16373"></span>Dr. Vikari practiced oral surgery in Issaquah, and was loved and admired by his patients, staff and colleagues. He cared deeply for his patients and they loved and respected him in return. Art found many ways to help others. He regularly shared his time and talents, and gave generously to others in need.</p>
<p>As a bishop in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he ministered to the members of his congregation. He opened the scriptures to the hearts of those searching for answers; he counseled those with heartache and loss; he visited the sick and weary; and encouraged the youth to live up to the best within them. Art was a true friend to all who came within the sphere of his influence.</p>
<p>Art accomplished much in life and enjoyed a variety of interests, however, his greatest joy and satisfaction came from his family. Home was where he most longed to be. Above all else he will be remembered as a devoted husband and father who loved the Lord and did his best to serve those around him. He lived a life of selfless service and optimism for a brighter day. Throughout his life and even when suffering from difficult medical issues, Art would share his life’s motto: “It’s my best day yet!”</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Ronald Bruce Reinhardt, of North Bend, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2011, in Snoqualmie. He was 65.</p>
<p>Ron was born Oct. 3, 1945 in Minneapolis, Minn., to Bryson and Irma Reinhardt.</p>
<p>He was raised primarily in Monterey and Laguna Beach, Calif., and graduated from Laguna Beach High School in 1963.</p>
<p>After high school, Ron was inducted into the United States Army.</p>
<p>He served as a medic in Vietnam, where he befriended, aided and saved the lives of many soldiers.</p>
<p><span id="more-15466"></span>During his time in Vietnam, he was wounded in a tunnel explosion while investigating enemy territory, earning him a Purple Heart. He was discharged honorably in 1966.</p>
<p>On Oct. 5, 1980, Ron married Elizabeth Curran in Burien. They started a family in Renton and later moved to Kent.</p>
<p>Although Ron was an expert contractor by profession, his true passion lie in raising his daughters and giving back to his community.</p>
<p>That included everything from attending all softball games and field trips, to planning daddy-daughter weekend adventures and fishing trips, and always lending a helping hand to anyone in need.</p>
<p>He spent time in Gig Harbor before moving to California in 2004.</p>
<p>In 2006, he spent two years in the Yukon province of Canada, fulfilling a promise to his uncle, a forest ranger, who told Ron the Yukon was one place he had to experience in his lifetime.</p>
<p>To be near his family again, Ron moved back and settled in the Snoqualmie Valley in early 2008. Experienced in the construction trade, he lent his talent to The Home Depot in Issaquah, where he worked the last few years of his life.</p>
<p>In his leisure time, Ron enjoyed fishing, going to garage sales, telling a story to anyone who would listen and spending as much quality time with his family as possible.</p>
<p>An expert wood worker, he seemed to always have a project in process. He loved to make birdhouses, rocking airplanes, and other woodcrafts for his family and friends. A lover of dogs, birds and charitable works, Ron could seemingly always be found caring for someone in need.</p>
<p>His family and friends remember him as a loving and dedicated father, grandfather and friend who possessed a big heart; kind smile and infectious laugh; a selfless, loyal and honest character; and a great sense of humor. He was a family-centric man who is, and always will be, deeply missed.</p>
<p>“Our dad always told us that he could leave this earth a happy man knowing that he raised us right and that we would be OK. In recent months, especially, he had reiterated this to us and others, saying he knows this to be true now, more than ever.” — Erica and Erin</p>
<p>Survivors include his loving daughters Erica VanWagoner, of Snoqualmie, and Erin Reinhardt, of Fall City; sister Nancy Chin, of Oakland, Calif.; grandson Gabriel; granddaughter Alix; and a host of extended family members and friends.</p>
<p>A memorial service was held July 24 at Snoqualmie Valley Alliance Church, Fall City.</p>
<p>Arrangements are entrusted to Flintoft’s Funeral Home and Crematory, 392-6444.</p>
<p>Friends are invited to view photos and share memories in the family’s online guest book at www.flintofts.com.</p>

<p>David was born Aug. 25, 1938, in Tacoma. He was the adopted son and only child of James and Mary Jenkins. His family remained in the Puget Sound area, and he graduated from Highline High School in June 1956.</p>
<div id="attachment_14773" class="wp-caption alignleft" style="width: 106px"><a rel="attachment wp-att-14773" href="http://snovalleystar.com/2011/06/01/david-robert-jenkins/obit-jenkinsphoto"><img class="size-thumbnail wp-image-14773" title="obit JenkinsPhoto" src="http://snovalleystar.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/obit-JenkinsPhoto-96x150.jpg" alt="" width="96" height="150" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">David Robert Jenkins</p></div>
<p>For two years following high school, David worked hard to save money for college. He was a construction laborer, packing 150-pound sacks of Gilsulate, an insulating mineral used to surround underground pipes. He was also a taxi driver for Yellow Cab, and he spent a summer landscaping.</p>
<p>He attended Pacific Lutheran University from 1958-1960, where he completed his general arts’ and science requirements. In 1961, he transferred to the University of Washington, where began his studies in art education.</p>
<p><span id="more-14772"></span>He discovered his love for building design and structure and changed his major to architecture. David graduated in 1967 with his Bachelor of Science in architecture — he was fourth out of a class of 145.</p>
<p>He began his career working as an architectural draftsman for Waldron Dietz, George Bolotin &amp; Associates in Seattle. He had also worked for Sassonoff and Mecklenberg, of Seahurst, and for Ralph Burkhard’s firm.</p>
<p>His career accomplishments included a commendation for designing a 33-story parking garage on a restricted-use site. He completed his career working as an architect and draftsman for The Boeing Co.</p>
<p>He is survived by his two children Victoria Susan Jenkins, of Bainbridge Island, and Eric John Jenkins, of Eagle River, Alaska; their mother Shirley Ann Carlson (married to David 1969-1973); and his granddaughter Emma. He also leaves his loving church family.</p>
<p>A visitation was held June 1, at Flintoft’s Issaquah Funeral Home, Issaquah. A memorial service to celebrate David’s life will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at Calvary Chapel, 1556 Boalch Ave. N.W., North Bend. Private interment will be at Hillside Cemetery, Issaquah.</p>
