Jack H. Barker

Jack H. Barker, of Issaquah, died at Overlake Hospital on Wednesday, June 11, 2008. He was 75.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 19, at Issaquah Community Church. During the memorial service, there will be a brief time set aside for friends and family to share their favorite memory of Jack.

Jack was born July 2, 1932, in Monroe, Wash., the son of Champ and Edna Barker. He was raised in North Bend, and graduated from Mt. Si High School. He signed up for the United States Army with several other men from the Snoqualmie Valley area during the Korean War.

He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with two bronze service stars and Meritorious Unit Commendation.

Mr. Barker moved to Issaquah in 1961 and worked for the phone company as a construction supervisor for 35 years. During his first marriage, he raised two sons and built his own home on the Issaquah Plateau. He was involved in the Jaycees and the Elks club.

Jack enjoyed working in his garden spring through fall, to the extent of building his own tomato hothouse and 12-foot electric fence to keep the deer out. His other passion was woodworking, with which he developed and created many projects.

Survivors include wife of 27 years, Dorothy; son Ted (Cindy), of Enumclaw; son Tim (Margaret), of Kirkland; stepson Mike (Eileen); stepdaughters Susan (Dan), Kris and Linda; and eight grandchildren.

The family suggests remembrances to American Heart Association.

Arrangements are by Flintoft’s Funeral Home and Crematory.

Friends are invited to share memories and sign the family’s online guest book at www.flintofts.com.
