Dale was born August 28, 1942 in Red Oak, Iowa, to Fred and Mary Penry. He married Helen Smalley on Sept. 21, 1970, in Snoqualmie. Dale had a variety of jobs throughout his career — he was creative and could come up with a solution to fix any problem.

We lost a bright light from this world on Jan. 2, 2013, when Karla Griffith passed away from complications related to cancer. She was 63.

Karla started her life in Belleville, Ill., daughter to Wain and Ethel Westfall, on Oct. 14, 1949. She graduated from Southern Illinois University — Carbondale with a bachelor’s degree in social work, and then moved to Tucson, Ariz., with her close friend Nancy Davis (Fossland). She spent a few years in the groovy world around San Francisco before moving to the Snoqualmie Valley 38 years ago.

Helen Siegenthaler Larson

Helen Larson, age 94, died on Friday, Nov. 16, 2012. Born on Jan. 31, 1918, in Duvall, to Peter and Lena Dolder Siegenthaler, she lived all but five years in the Snoqualmie Valley.

Helen graduated from Tolt High School and Peterson Business College. She worked as a secretary in Seattle until her marriage to Wesley Larson on April 20, 1940. Wesley died in 2007.

Survivors include her daughter Patricia (Andrew) and son Kenneth (Cindy); grandchildren Susan, Kristin, Julie and Jeff; and seven great-grandchildren.

Margaret Mary ‘Peggy’ Fursman

Peggy Fursman, of Snoqualmie, loving wife to Jeremy, mother to Ian and Fiona, and teacher at St. Joseph Catholic School, passed away Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, at home. She was 45.

A funeral Mass was held Nov. 19, 2012, at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Sammamish.

Sally Vaughan Hill (Busby), of North Bend, was born Oct. 21, 1955, in Snoqualmie, to Cecil and Vaughan Busby. She died Nov. 7, 2012.

She is survived by the pride and joy of her life — Luke Wyrsch, her son; siblings Mary Ann Barth, Terry, Patrick, Claudia and Brian Busby; and many loving family and friends.

Memorial service will be at noon Saturday, Dec. 1, at Snoqualmie Valley Alliance Church, Fall City.

Jim passed away Oct. 22, 2012.

He was born Nov. 16, 1954. He was raised and educated in the Snoqualmie Valley. He worked at the Snoqualmie Summit for 28 years. Jim was a Connector bus driver for Microsoft.

Jim loved fishing, gardening and wood working. He sold his tables, chairs, etc., at his stand along the river just outside Fall City on Highway 202.

Jim is survived by his mother Peggy Westerlund; wife Susan; daughter Nina (Brelon); granddaughter Layla, of Fall City; son Justin, of Missouri; sisters Mari Lou (Pete), Tim (Cathy), Don (Dawn), and Larry (Sandra); and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Stewart Leonard Rose Jr., of North Bend, passed away on Friday, Sept. 28, 2012.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy; children David E. Thompson, Marilyn L. Tillman and Joy’e M. Willman; and brothers Raymond Rose and Arthur Rose.

Joanna Decker Cromwell

Joanna Decker Cromwell, 57, of North Bend, died Saturday, Aug. 25, after surgery for a fly-fishing accident.

Born Nov. 1, 1954, in Stockton, Calif., to Margaret Tomlinson and Jack Peters, Cromwell attended Seattle University.

She was a Sun Valley ski instructor, renowned fly-fishing instructor and multiprize-winning western horseback rider. She was featured and photographed fly-fishing in the Snoqualmie River at North Bend by the Associated Press as a delegate to the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Boston, representing the Seattle area.

Remembered for her achievements, selflessness and determination in raising her daughters, Joanna is survived by husband Todd Cromwell, of North Bend; brothers Jim and Jon Peters; daughters Emily Lester and Stephanie Decker, of Seattle; and grandson August River Lester.

As field director, Joanna encouraged self-esteem for 100 Kenyan children on safari in 2010.
