A handsome tom turkey is running lose in the Wilderness Rim in North Bend.

The neighbors dubbed him Ben after Benjamin Franklin, who wanted to make the turkey — not the eagle — the national symbol of the U.S.

Wilderness Rim resident Emily Rourke said she thinks Ben is wild because she’s heard him gobble time and again in the past five years. Ben roams around her cul-de-sac and puffs out when he sees his reflection, probably because he is territorial and thinks his reflection is another turkey, Rourke said.

Ben has wandered away from her neighborhood in the past few days and she hopes he’s safe.
